The subject of purchasing is a central element of our corporate strategy. Purchasing has considerable potential for increasing the value added and revenue for KraussMaffei.
Our goals
Purchasing, logistics and development partnership
We have set ambitious goals. In the first place, we want to reduce our system costs every year. This will not be achieved simply by means of low prices but by reducing logistics and storage costs. We will therefore continuously endeavor to optimize value added across the delivery chain. How can we improve our procurement logistics for example? How can we organize our products in a more cost-effective manner through optimized technical components and modules and offer value added to our customers through innovations? These are a few of the many challenges we have to face. As in our own company, it is also in our interest that customers improve their procedures and processes.
Our production principles make very high demands on the reliability and efficiency of our suppliers. This is why we need suppliers who can meet our requirements on a business as well as technical level and who are prepared to continuously further develop their companies with our help. Ideally, selected suppliers are already integrated in the process in the development phase of new products so that cost-optimized solutions for customers can be developed together.
Worldwide presence

KraussMaffei Purchasing has a global presence. We work the supplier markets in the USA, China and Eastern Europe with local buyers based at our local locations. The purchasing department is headquartered in Munich. This is also where the global responsibility for the material groups lies.
The purchasing volume within KraussMaffei is spread across five major material groups. These five material groups are mechanical system, electrical system, hydraulic system, systems and general commodities and services. These five major material groups include a number of subgroups.
The purchasing volume in our mechanical system material group is over 200 million euros per annum. The most important material groups are:
- Welded construction groups, in particular, machine bases
- Spheroidal cast iron
- Semifinished products
- Forged parts
- Mechanically machined parts
The purchasing volume in our electrical system material group is over 120 million euros per annum. The most important material groups are:
- Control systems
- Drive units
- Control cabinets
- Sensors
The purchasing volume in our hydraulic system material group is over 60 million euros per annum. The most important material groups are:
- Pumps
- Valves
- Hoses
- Fittings
- Hydraulic motors
The purchasing volume in our systems material group is over 130 million euros per annum. The most important material groups are:
- Injection molding peripherals
- Injection moldings (CD/DVD/PET)
- Extrusion follow-up equipment
- Peripherals for reaction machinery
The purchasing volume in our general commodities and services material group is over 130 million euros per annum. The most important material groups are:
- External assembly and services
- Transport and packaging services
- IT - hardware and software
- Engineering servicesInvestment in machine tools
You want to become our supplier
In order that the KraussMaffei Group can offer its customers high-performance products in the long term, on the supplier side we need partners who can meet our high requirements on a commercial as well as technical level and who are prepared to develop constantly together with our Group.
We therefore select a very limited number of suppliers as our "preferred suppliers" who are prepared to face global competition and meet the global standards that we pursue.
